Mackenzie Eason & Associates has been retained by the City of Fort Worth to help recruit the new Assistant Director over Traffic and Transportation Management Division. The TPW Department is currently led by Dr. Doug Wiersig. The Department has five Assistant Directors. The department has over 465 full time employees in the five divisions.
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT DIVISION
The City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department is seeking an Assistant Director to lead the department’s Transportation Management Division. The Transportation Management Division has 117 positions and an annual operating budget of $35 million.
The Transportation Management Division is responsible for a variety of work functions including: Transportation Mobility initiatives – expanding modal options for pedestrians, bicyclists and public transportation, complete street program, and Safe Route to School program; Smart City Transportation Initiatives; Traffic Services - installation and maintenance of all traffic control devices, including operations and maintenance of traffic signals, street lights, signs & markings, school flashers, ITS deployment, Railroad Safety Program and the City’s Traffic Management Center: Traffic Engineering responsibilities include Traffic Engineering Studies, Neighborhood Traffic Management Programs, managing the City’s Red Light Enforcement Program and Street Use Permitting; Parking Management – management of on-street meter program and operation of 24 garages and surface lots; and Ground Transportation – permitting of vehicles for hire services such as taxis cabs, limo’s, TNC’s, and non-motorized services.
In addition, the position is responsible for management and delivery of the division’s Capital Improvement Projects, development coordination, and functioning as the point of contact with consultants, contractors, professional organizations, and government agencies on transportation related issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is required. Additionally, the preferred candidate must have at least six (6) years of increasingly responsible administrative and management experience related to transportation and public works, as well as experience working with citizen and neighborhood associations. Candidates with a blend of progressive direct work experience in the public or private sectors would be most attractive in addition to individuals with AICP, CCM, PMP, LEED or PE credentials.Candidates should have knowledge of the operations, services and activities of a comprehensive municipal transportation and public works department including: transportation system planning, operations and analysis; principles and practices of program development and administration; management and administration of budgets; knowledge of modern management practices; and knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations relating to transportation and traffic operations.
Annual compensation ranges from $108,482 to $178,995 and is determined based upon experience and qualifications. An attractive program of benefits is available with the City including:
